Scholarly success for Annabelle B.

On Tuesday 19 January academic scholars in Years 7, 8, and 9 took part in a Balloon Debate, in which the girls competed, persuading the audience of Year 6 pupils as to why their chosen pre-1900 character deserved to stay safe (i.e. not be thrown out of the hot air balloon to save the balloon from falling). The Year 6 pupils were treated to performances including: a demonstration of flight by Leonardo da Vinci; beat boxing by Mary Ward; and persuasive rhetoric from Deborah Sampson, Thomas Edison, and Alexander Graham Bell, to name just a few. All of the scholars presented their cases exceptionally well, having researched their characters’ personalities, histories and achievements in order to explain why they would be the most useful to society if allowed to live. Congratulations to Year 9 student Annabelle B., AKA Genghis Khan, for her enthusiastic representation of the founder and Great Khan (emperor) of the Mongol Empire.
