Remote Learning

Complete online provision | #stillstmarys

Our remote learning programme covers academic and pastoral provision. Delivered through live lessons, our approach focuses on helping all students to become better learners - empowered, creative and agile.

Our remote education is distinctively 'St Mary's', with girls thriving in extra-curricular pursuits and community activities, as well as their academic studies. Our approach includes:

  • Enrichment provision including:
    • Weekly High Performance Learning programme (Years 7 to 9)
    • Leadership opportunities and on-going School Council activities
    • Sports challenges
    • LAMDA and peripatetic music lessons
    • Weekly cultural enrichment opportunities via resources, opportunities to access information online
  • Community activities such as continued live assemblies and shared experiences
  • A priority on sustaining the happiness and wellbeing of all students
  • Daily time with Form Tutors
  • Remote 1:1 academic surgeries with teachers
A day in the life of a Year 7 student

What does learning online look like for a St Mary's girl?

  My day in Year 7
8.40

Science

I'm working on my 10-second timer. We are building timers make from items we find around our homes and these are then tested in class. There's a prize for the most imaginative design!

9.40

Latin

Today, we explored Roman culture and learned about housing in ancient Rome by creating an estate agent's advert for a villa in Pompeii.

10.50

Design and Technology: Textiles

Today, we've been thinking about sustainability in fashion and exploring creative ideas for reusable materials that could be used for our up-cycled design and make project.

11.45

English

We've been exploring the poetry of Rossetti and today it's our turn to put pen to paper, creating an original poem in response to what we have learned so far.

12.40

Lunch

I can choose to join a lunch time club:

  • Year 7 Choir (developing performance and vocal skills, ready to perform in venues like the University Concert Hall)
  • Young Engineers Club (making space capsules)

Following by my Tutor Group check-in or an assembly. Every other day we meet as a Form and take turns to work in pairs to present on topics that inspire us! Recent topics have included: poverty, gender, how to support each other... which we all then discuss.

2.10

Enrichment: Arts Award Scheme

I'm working on my 'Taking Flight' art project, creating an illustrated guide to common garden birds found in Cambridge, but there is freedom to choose a project around this theme - for example, other students are making costumes for a ballet or writing their own songs.

Remote learning in action

“We are very grateful and amazed by how well the school was prepared for the distance learning. We are experiencing exceptional teaching and pastoral care even through remote learning. What a wonderful school and staff!”
