Supported by our bespoke advice and inspiration, students leave us confidently prepared for their next steps.
Looking to the future
In our Sixth Form, girls move up to study the subjects they love in greater depth at A-Level. Our Sixth Form leaver destinations highlight what a diverse range of inspiring paths they go on to take.
Dedicated careers service
Our Careers Department works with students from Year 7 onwards, getting to know each girl's individual talents, interests and ambitions.
We take a holistic approach, helping younger girls to appreciate that everyone has something unique to offer. Rather than asking younger girls ‘what would you like to do after school?’, we encourage self-reflection, creating opportunities for young people to develop their personalities, passions, and broad skills, and to consider how these impact each other. We also focus on more practical aspects of career planning, such as interview skills and CV writing.
Expert advice and connections
We offer a full programme of careers events, delivered by highly-accredited external providers, as well as by our Careers Department and tutors. We also have excellent links with:
- Specialist Further Education establishments and prestigious universities
- Local and national organisations offering highly-regarded Apprenticeship programmes
Our location in Cambridge allows us to forge connections with many employers, from dynamic small businesses to world-leading organisations such as Mott MacDonald, the Babraham Institute and Microsoft Research. In our Sixth Form, these connections offer great opportunities for our students to undertake work placements.
InvestIN Partner Schools Programme
We were one of the first schools in the UK to become an InvestIN Partner School. This provides priority access to a range of immersive career experiences, for our students aged 15 to 18.
InvestIN experiences provide unique insights into key professions, including: investment banking, medicine, business, law, architecture, politics, journalism, engineering, psychology and computer science. InvestIN’s popular 1-day to 5-day programmes use interactive role play, seminars, case studies and Q&A sessions to deliver a 360-degree career experience. They also provide a Beyond Programme, for 12-15 year-olds, to highlight the inspiring career paths that each curriculum subject can open up.
St Mary’s girls have already experienced the positive benefits of InvestIN’s Young Engineer, Young Banker, Young Doctor, Young Lawyer and Young Business Leader programmes.
