Rowing update

Two of our Sixth Form rowing crews competed in the novice division of the Fairbairn Cup races on Thursday 3 December, racing downstream from Jesus College Boathouse for 2,700 metres to finish at ‘the railings’ on the ‘reach’ section of the River Cam.

53 women’s novice crews from the Cambridge colleges raced, and our school’s Upper Sixth crew rowed solidly, overtaking Darwin College in the Long Reach to finish sixth in a time of 11.36 – only a few seconds behind Jesus and Newnham colleges, and beating a women’s crew from The Leys School by five seconds!

The Lower Sixth crew finished in a respectable 35th place having given a performance of which the girls should be proud. It was good to see our school team spirit in action, and it was definitely a case of everyone pulling together for the ultimate goal, with the Upper Sixth crew able to give the Lower Sixth crew a great cheer as they approached the finish line. Well done to the girls in both crews – we look forward to the next competition, the Winter League, which will take place in the Spring Term.
