U16 HOCKEY TEAM WINS CAMBRIDGE DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

On Monday this week our U16 hockey team won the Cambridge district tournament, having progressed through the group stages last week. In the group stages the girls passed the ball around well, beating both Cottenham and Soham to progress to the final. The U15 girls also progressed through to the final by winning the B team tournament.

On the day of the final itself the teams represented were our own Year 11 and Year 10 teams, as well as Netherhall and Sawston schools’ teams. Both St Mary’s School, Cambridge teams should be proud of their performances, however the Year 11 team especially so as the girls came out as overall District Champions, beating both our own Year 10 team and the team from Sawston school. The goals came from some superb play by the forward line of Annie Q., Sophie W., Anna F. and the inside forwards Kate B. and Maddy B. Special mention must go to Roisin S., Julia P. and Elizah Y. for their composure in defence. Both teams demonstrated fantastic passages of play and showed their ability to both pass the ball with strength and accuracy as well as control a game.

YEAR 8 GIRLS TACKLE THE GSA NETBALL TOURNAMENT

On Friday 25 September 10 our Year 8 students set off for the GSA netball tournament, held in Shrewsbury. The group played nine matches over the two day tournament and took part in a range of different activities at Condover Hall, including a stint on the high ropes! The girls learnt a lot throughout this intensive tournament weekend and returned to school better players thanks to the experience. The group should be really proud of themselves – thanks to Miss Cooil and Mrs Fleming for accompanying the students on their weekend away.
