Over the last two months, students across the world have experienced profound changes - not just in their daily lives, but also in how they think about their futures.

What has really struck educational entrepreneur Jo Cruse is that this time has encouraged all of us - whether directly involved in entrepreneurship or not - to flex our entrepreneurial muscle.

#Teachereffect blogs

Mis HandleyWe wanted to spend this year celebrating some of our teaching staff who help make St Mary’s School, Cambridge such an inspiring place for girls to learn and flourish. We call it the #teachereffect.

Sadly, we couldn’t cover all our teaching staff; however, we did showcase several over this year in many diverse areas and from across the school, from our Junior School to our Sixth Form; from Mr Taylor, Mrs Cliff and Mr Severy in our Junior School, to Miss Handley, Mrs Landshoff and Mr Bertram in our Senior School and Sixth Form.

We recently interviewed various Sixth Formers about their experiences completing an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Emma W. wrote about sports psychology, Anna C. went on a textiles-based adventure, Ana W. wrote about her love of the Scouts, and Sally P. created an illustrated picture book that explores grief.


The best things about boarding at St Mary’s

Earlier in the year, we asked boarders from Year 5 to Year 13 for their opinions on the best things about boarding at St Mary’s. One boarder said:

“I really enjoy being able to live with my friends, many of whom are from different countries. Mary Ward House is "a world in one house" which provides opportunities for us to learn about and from people from different cultures. I think it will prepare us well for the future world of work.”

Mr O’Reilly believes that early investment in education pays long-term dividends – as in these vital early years, how we experience education shapes our life-long attitude to learning.


Taking a LEAP into online enrichment through gamification

Over the past year, the Junior School Special Educational Needs Team, known as LEAP (Learning Enhancement to Achieve Potential) has continued working to develop focused and comprehensive support for pupils with specific needs. This year, they officially launched LEAP Pathfinders, an online enrichment program designed with the theory of gamification in mind.
