Prize Giving 2020

Senior School & Sixth Form

Welcome

A warm welcome to our first virtual Prize Giving. We invite you to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our girls with us.

Every year we come together to celebrate the achievements of our students across the curriculum.

This year is no different and in many ways, the continued success of our girls is even more impressive, given the disruption they have faced to normal school life.

Please take some time to view this year's prize winners and to enjoy our selected performances kindly shared by some of our talented musicians. #stillstmary #stillaiminghigh

Mary Ward Prize Winners

Committed to the education of girls and women, Mary Ward sought to give practical expression to the hope expressed in the gospels of a world of equality and justice.

Mary Ward reaches out to us across time. She believed that “women in time to come will do much.” This vision continues to inspire our girls to ‘do much’ – to aim high, not just academically – but also to become confident, compassionate young women.

One of the timeless Mary Ward characteristics that our school holds most dear is ‘Valuing Friendship’. Friendships between our students uphold all of us as a community at the best of times, and they have especially done so in these unusual times. We would therefore pay tribute to those girls who have shone because they often take the time to reach out to others. To use the analogy of our pastoral initiative 'Girls on Board’, these are students who watch out for others to ensure that everyone is happily afloat on the good ship St Mary’s.

Mary Ward describes Justice as an 'apt disposition' to all good works. We see this disposition in our wonderful students. We are proud everyday of girls who take the time to right small injustices. We have awarded our Mary Ward Promoting Justice Prize to those girls who go further and have promoted social justice through raising awareness amongst their peers.

Collaboration Prize Winners

As a High Performance Learning school, we value collaborative skills as key to equipping students for 21st century life, and they are an essential component of our time capsule. In our virtual school we have seen time and again students who have found imaginative ways to work in teams, to value the views of others and to encourage and support their peers.

Creativity and Enterprise Prize Winners

No St Mary’s time capsule would be complete without reference to the wonderful creativity of our students right across the academic disciplines. We have never been more aware of the Creativity and Enterprise than at this present time. Skills of open-mindedness, resourcefulness and flexibility planted in our physical school have blossomed to fabulous effect in our remote school.

Resilience Prize Winners

Alongside Collaboration and Creativity, our students have shown unprecedented levels of resilience and we have some rather special examples to add to our capsule. Never have we all called upon our abilities to overcome setbacks; remain confident, flexible and optimistic in the face of adversity so much. True to form, St Mary’s girls have shown this resilience and they have done so with a smile.
