Year 9 Explore History, Geography, and Global Business at Cadbury World
Earlier this term, our Year 9 students enjoyed a fascinating educational visit to Cadbury World in Bournville, Birmingham, which combined lessons in history and geography with insights into the workings of a multinational company.
The trip began with an exploration of why Cadbury was originally established in Bournville, giving students a historical perspective on the company’s founding and its impact on the local community. They then learned about the growth of Cadbury as a global brand, linking this to geography topics such as globalisation and the operation of multinational companies in today’s world.
Students explored interactive exhibitions that traced the history of chocolate and the processes involved in chocolate production, gaining an appreciation for both the historical and geographical factors that have shaped the industry. They even had the opportunity to see chocolatiers at work and try chocolate-making for themselves – a hands-on experience that brought history and geography to life in a creative way.
The day also included an informative talk from a Cadbury education specialist, who praised our students for their curiosity, excellent questions, and exemplary behaviour. The talk explored a wide range of topics, from historical developments in the chocolate industry to contemporary issues facing global businesses.
Of course, the visit wouldn’t have been complete without sampling some delicious melted chocolate and taking home a few Cadbury bars as souvenirs of the day.
Back at school, Year 9 completed their fieldtrip booklet, reflecting on what they’ve learned about the history, geography, and global impact of Cadbury.
This visit was a fantastic way to combine hands-on learning with real-world connections, giving students a deeper understanding of historical developments and geographical processes and leaving them with lasting memories (and chocolate!) to enjoy.
