Year 6 Transition Morning Gives Students a Taste of Their Future

What better way to familiarise yourself with your future Senior School than a group task with your peers, bringing together time management, teamwork, attention to detail, innovation and...baking!

The Year 6 transition at St Mary’s is tailored to overcome the nervousness of trying something new by giving it an exciting, yet reassuringly familiar twist - akin to hiding new vegetables in a pasta sauce! A carousel of events which begins with baking homemade goodies, designing the packaging, and developing a marketing strategy, quickly immerses students in the Senior School atmosphere, giving them a taste of life beyond Year 6, and a treat to take home at the end of the day!

For our current Year 6, their morning started with a discussion about the skills and attributes that will stand them in good stead in the future. By learning that activities such as playing football after school, or regularly attending the coding club demonstrate commitment and dedication, the students could appreciate the value of extracurricular activities in developing skilful, versatile individuals, ready to tackle whatever opportunities lie ahead.

The morning also provided an early opportunity to consider future ambitions, and how the acquisition of key skills keeps the door open wide to a range of careers. Whether a future footballer or financier, mathematician or musician, the event helped Year 6 to feel at home in the Senior School, and confident about their next steps at St Mary’s.
