Year 6 Build Confidence in Coding with the Cospace Rescue Simulation Robotics Day

As an exciting way of introducing coding and event driven programming, St Mary’s Year 6 pupils recently took part in our annual CoSpace Rescue Simulation Robotics Challenge Day.

Working in collaborative teams, the girls learnt how to program virtual robots using RoboCupJunior Rescue Simulation software before competing in a series of fast-paced coding challenges. Hosted in our STEM Lab and led by Computer Science Coordinator Mr Severy, the day encouraged collaboration, problem-solving and creativity as students programmed their robots to collect objects, avoid obstacles and complete tasks against the clock.

This approach to Computer Science reflects St Mary’s long-standing commitment to giving girls an early start in coding, robotics and digital know-how. Over recent years, our pupils have achieved impressive success in RoboCupJunior competitions at both national and international level, developing technical confidence and teamwork skills from a young age.

After refining their code in development sessions, teams competed in a mini tournament, with awards recognising technical ability, teamwork and individual achievement. Throughout the day, the girls showed great perseverance, enthusiasm and collaborative spirit.

We were also delighted to welcome back former Junior School pupils Tuppence K. and Youshan H., now members of the St Mary’s Sixth Form, who came to support the event and help inspire the next generation of coders.
