Sports update: Autumn Term 2020

Sports update: Autumn Term 2020

Long Road

From the start of this academic year, the girls have been enjoying using our amazing new sports facilities at Long Road. Girls have enjoyed using the 3G pitch, hockey pitch and netball courts for lessons and extra-curricular clubs. We are looking forward to being able to use our sports ground for home fixtures and tournaments in the future.

Rowing

Unfortunately, due to the national lockdown we had to suspend rowing in the second half of this term. Rowing will continue to be suspended until January 2021. All rowing in PE lessons, afterschool and weekend clubs will resume from Monday 4 January 2021. Our rowing team are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the boat house.

Extra-curricular Clubs

It has been a strange start to this year with no sports fixtures happening, however the girls have seized the opportunity to attend lots of sports clubs that have been on offer. The sports department have been impressed by the commitment the girls have shown in attending hockey, netball, gymnastics, volleyball, and benchball clubs during this term. Many more clubs and activities are going to be on offer after the Christmas break, please see the timetable below for Senior School sports clubs next term.

Virtual Fixtures

We are looking forward to entering students into the GSA Virtual Gymnastics Competition, which is due to be held on 8 February. Girls will have the opportunity to enter this competition and compete at school, performing a set floor routine and vault. Please encourage your daughter to speak to Miss Powell if she is interested in participating in this.

As ever, we are really proud of how our girls have continued to work hard in sports in this challenging year, and are looking forward to a lot more sport at St Mary’s in the future.
