Senior School Gym Display and Dance Showcase Celebrate Talent and Creativity

St Mary’s Senior School was alive with energy and excitement as students took to the floor for the 2026 Gym Display and Dance Showcase, two much-anticipated events that celebrate the talent, commitment and creativity of our pupils. With strong participation from across the year groups, both evenings highlighted the depth of ability within the school and the enthusiasm students bring to performance.

The Senior School Gym Display was a fantastic celebration of teamwork and dedication, with over 50 gymnasts participating in an impressive programme of routines. The evening opened with a vibrant and confident group performance from our Year 6 girls, who set the tone for what was to come with enthusiasm and poise. Their performance provided a fitting introduction to an evening that would go on to showcase a wide range of skills and styles.

Students from Years 7–11 followed with a series of dynamic group routines and polished solo performances. Each piece reflected the significant time and effort that had gone into preparation, with gymnasts demonstrating strength, flexibility and precision throughout. From floor sequences to coordinated group work, the display highlighted not only technical ability but also the strong sense of teamwork that underpins gymnastics at St Mary’s.

The atmosphere in the hall was one of encouragement and celebration, with students supporting one another and taking pride in their achievements. The standard of performance across all year groups was exceptionally high, reflecting months of commitment, perseverance and focused training.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of The Frances Hawken Gymnastics Salver, awarded this year to Imogen C. (Year 11). This accolade recognises outstanding contribution and achievement in gymnastics, and Imogen’s dedication and consistent excellence make her a thoroughly deserving recipient. Her commitment to the sport has been evident throughout her time at St Mary’s, and this award marks a fitting recognition of her efforts.

Alongside the Gym Display, the Dance Showcase provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the breadth and diversity of dance within the school. Featuring performances from students across multiple year groups, the showcase brought together a variety of styles, each piece reflecting the individuality and creativity of the performers.

From contemporary routines to more expressive and character-driven pieces, the evening demonstrated the confidence and artistry our dancers have developed. Students performed with focus and enthusiasm, engaging the audience and bringing each routine to life. The range of choreography on display highlighted both technical development and the willingness of students to explore movement and expression in different ways.

As with the Gym Display, the Dance Showcase was a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and staff. It also reflected the supportive environment at St Mary’s, where pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves, collaborate with others and take pride in their achievements.

Together, these events offered a joyful celebration of performance at St Mary’s, showcasing not only talent and skill, but also the confidence, resilience and sense of community that define school life.
