Senior School Christmas Roundup 2025

Senior School Christmas Roundup 2025

The Senior School has been buzzing with festive cheer this December!

Students have taken part in a wide range of activities, from creative performances and reflective traditions to charitable initiatives and fun celebrations. Highlights included Christmas wreath-making, interhouse Christmas quizzes, and a variety of festive workshops, giving everyone the chance to be creative, work together, and enjoy the spirit of the season. Whether showcasing their musical talents, taking on challenging STEM puzzles, or enjoying festive parties and community events, our students have brought energy, enthusiasm, and Christmas cheer to every corner of the school. It has been a wonderful way to end the term, celebrating achievement, friendship, and the joy of the season together.

A season of reflection and joy

As we embraced the season of Advent, the school was a wonderfully warm and reflective atmosphere. Each morning, we lit our Advent wreath, a simple yet meaningful moment that encourages us all, students and staff alike, to pause, breathe, and prepare our hearts for the celebration of Christmas. This daily prayer has become a treasured part of our Advent traditions, offering a reminder of hope and anticipation during this busy and joyful time of year.

Festive fun and community spirit

In true St Mary’s spirit, our community embraced the festive season with enthusiasm. Christmas Jumper Day brought bursts of colour throughout the school, with students and staff proudly wearing their most creative and cheerful jumpers to raise funds and lift everyone’s spirits. Our whole-school Christmas lunch followed soon after, with delicious food, laughter, and a strong sense of togetherness as we gathered to share a festive meal.

The spirit of giving

Our Giving Tree has once again been a beautiful reminder that this season is truly a time for generosity and compassion. Thank you to all families who donated items for Jimmy’s Night Shelter - your kindness will make a meaningful difference to those in our wider community.

Reflective Traditions

Our celebrations also included moments of quiet reflection and tradition. The Senior School Carol Service at OLEM was particularly moving, filling the space with beautiful music and readings that captured the essence of Christmas. It was a joy to see our students participate so confidently, contributing to a service that is always one of the standout events of the year.

Year 7 also marked the season with their Christingle Service in the Chapel, a thoughtful and symbolic occasion that encouraged them to consider the themes of light, hope, and unity.

Festive Celebrations

Our boarders enjoyed a memorable evening at their annual Christmas Dinner, held in the beautiful surroundings of Peterhouse College. The historic setting made the occasion feel especially magical. The festivities continued back at school with a lively Christmas disco, bringing plenty of laughter, dancing, and a wonderful sense of community to round off the evening.

Meanwhile, our Sixth Form Christmas Party brought plenty of fun and festive spirit to the end of term, giving students the chance to relax, spend time together, and celebrate all they have achieved this year.
