Promising Performances from St Mary’s Rowers
St Mary’s Boat Club have continued their excellent start to the racing season with back-to-back weekends of rowing showcasing the depth of talent talent across the squads.
On Saturday 1 November, six crews raced at Henley Sculls. The highlight of the day came from our Year 11 quad, who delivered an impressive performance to finish 3rd out of 8, just 12 seconds behind last year’s National Schools’ winners who were racing on their home stretch.
A special mention goes to Astrid R.M., who demonstrated excellent skill and composure in her first race in the bow seat, expertly steering around other crews.
These strong results are an encouraging sign as the we look ahead to the Junior Fours Head on November 14th.

On the following Saturday, 8 November, six crews from St Mary’s Boat Club took to their home waters for the Cambridge Winter Head. Representing the younger years were two Year 9 and two Year 10 coxed quads, alongside a Year 11 and a Sixth Form coxless quad.
With no external opposition in their categories, our Year 9 and 10 rowers competed against fellow St Mary’s crews, showing impressive determination and posting solid times across all four boats. A special mention goes to our Year 10 A quad, whose time would have tied for first place in the Year 10 boys’ event.
In the senior categories, our Sixth Form coxless quad claimed an excellent 2nd place in the Women’s junior coxless quads event, and our Year 11 crew dug deep to finish in 5th place while racing up an age category.
