Musical success for Chloe W. and Gerri S.

Musical success for Chloe W. and Gerri S.

Two talented St Mary's students have achieved the prestigious ARSM qualification this term.

The ARSM, a performance diploma awarded by the esteemed Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, is a qualification for musicians who have already taken their Grade 8 examination on their chosen instrument. Students are required to prepare a recital of 30 minutes and this term, due to Covid restrictions, they were required to submit unedited video performances of themselves to the examination board for scrutiny.

Pianist Chloe W., in Year 9, undertook the examination in April and performed repertoire by Schumann, Scarlatti and Mozart. She passed her ARSM examination with 42 out of 50, which is a Merit. Year 11 GCSE musician and Music Scholar Gerri S. took the piano examination in May, performing repertoire by Haydn and Chopin as well as a traditional Chinese piece. Gerri achieved a very impressive 46/50 (a Distinction). The image show is an 'action shot' taken from Gerri's examination recording.

We warmly congratulate both Chloe and Gerri and look forward to hearing about future musical successes!
