LAMDA success for St Mary’s students

Students at St Mary’s are celebrating outstanding success in their recent LAMDA Acting examinations, with all participants achieving Grade 8 Distinctions (the highest possible mark) and earning the maximum 30 UCAS points each.

The results reflect the students’ talent, dedication and creativity, nurtured through the school’s vibrant Speech and Drama programme led by Ms Weber.

Florrie S. shared how transformative the experience has been:

“Taking Speech and Drama at St Mary’s has enabled me to step out of my comfort zone, building upon my public speaking skills whilst expanding on my creativity outside of lessons. As a new student I have felt very welcomed by the vibrant drama department, who display a genuine enthusiasm for their subject. Coming to lessons was something that I really enjoyed as a free safe space to express myself. It has been an integral part of my school experience, and I have created memories in the speech and drama room that I will never forget. I am very proud that I have been supported along this journey to achieve a distinction at Grade 8 - this is not only something additional to add to university applications but also a genuine skill I have built up and hope to utilise further in life.”

Catherine R. reflected on the valuable skills developed through the lessons:

“Speech and Drama really helped me develop a wide range of valuable and transferable skills. It encouraged creativity through acting, but also allowed me to improve my communication skills through performances. It helped me develop the ability to do public speaking with clarity and confidence. The drama aspect of it supported emotional growth as I stepped into the perspectives of different characters.”

For Trinity Y., Speech and Drama has been a powerful space for self-expression:

“The lessons have given me the confidence to believe in myself, to find the freedom, voice and emotional strength to express what I’m feeling.”

Former student Evangelia F. M., who also achieved a Distinction with an exceptional score of 90, sent in a heartfelt message:

“Ever since I joined St Mary’s in Year 7, Speech & Drama lessons have always been the activity I’ve most looked forward to in the school week. They truly enabled me to enhance my performing capabilities, and the duologues I’ve performed have been such a fun and rewarding experience to learn. They also improved my life outside of school, making me more sociable and confident. I am seriously going to miss seeing Ms Weber every week and having our wonderful 30-minute sessions doing what I love most - acting. Speech & Drama is the best choice I ever made as an extra-curricular activity, and each duologue I’ve learned throughout my years here will never be forgotten.”

Congratulations to all the girls for their well-deserved success - a reflection of their talent, commitment and passion for performance.
