Coding Robots to Create Art
Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYSF) girls have been coding hand-sized programmable robots to create works of art, in an exciting session in the Junior School STEM lab with Mr Severy, their dedicated Computer Science Coordinator.
The girls worked in mixed Preschool and Reception teams, coding their BeeBot robots to follow carefully planned sequences of instructions. Each BeeBot was fitted with a special pen holder, transforming it into a moving, drawing robot that brought their code to life on paper.
They coded the BeeBots to draw a series of geometric shapes such as circles, squares and rectangles, pausing to reposition the robots between each shape.
Once the Beebot robots had completed their instructions, the girls used coloured pens to shade in the various segments of their overlapping shapes to produce a stained glass window effect. The girls worked extremely hard, showing considerable creativity as well as some very impressive coding and colouring skills.
As a lesson in learning that coding is simply a set of clear and logical instructions, it was great fun, and produced some intricate artwork in the process!
