Charlotte Steps Out for Soccer Aid and UNICEF

Walking on to the pitch as a mascot at Soccer Aid for UNICEF is a memorable experience in itself. Walking out as the first of a team of 14 mascots, all wearing the very mascot shirt that you designed yourself, is something even more special.

Charlotte G, in Year 7, experienced exactly that, after winning the competition to design the official mascots' shirt for one of the nation's biggest annual charity sporting events, Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2026. Her imaginative design, inspired by UNICEF's values and commitment to protecting the rights of children around the world, was chosen from entries across the country. Her winning design was also displayed on the London Stadium's big screen for thousands of spectators to see.

At the star-studded event, where she met the likes of Wayne Rooney, Tom Hanks, Usain Bolt and Robbie Williams, Charlotte said:

"Being in front of so many people was a bit overwhelming at first, and I still can't quite believe I won the competition. I didn't think I would win, but you have to at least try. I also can't believe how much money the event raised!"

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of Soccer Aid for UNICEF, which raised £17million this year alone for children around the world and Charlotte was immensely proud to have played her part.

In turn, St Mary's is incredibly proud of Charlotte, not only for creating a design that so powerfully reflected UNICEF's values, but also for demonstrating the confidence, creativity and determination to enter a national competition and succeed against such strong competition.
