Celebrations fit for a King!
This week, St Mary’s hosted a range of celebration activities to commemorate the coronation of King Charles lll. From bunting making, a Royal tea party to cake baking all of the activities were designed to help the students learn about the Coronation and the importance of this historic occasion.
Over Thursday and Friday (4-5 May), students enjoyed a range of fun ‘House’ activities and competitions, such as making bunting to adorn the school corridors in red, white and blue, as well as a student-led ‘Coronation Cake Bake Off’ competition to design the most regal cake.
Years 7 and 8 had the opportunity to choose 10 objects which they thought represented St Mary’s in 2023. These were then added to a time capsule in a special ceremony. These year groups also undertook special coronation activities in their history lessons.
Everyone gathered for an assembly to learn about coronations through time and pupils also had the chance to try on crowns in cortile for a memorable photograph. The celebrations were rounded off when the whole school came together for a street party style picnic lunch.
Our Junior School, in true British fashion, carried on despite the weather - including hail(!) - and enjoyed a tea party in Royal fancy dress.
We have had such a memorable week at St Mary’s and we look forward to the coronation this weekend.
