Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award goes ahead despite all challenges

Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award goes ahead despite all challenges

On the weekend of 8 and 9 May, nineteen teams of Year 9 and 10 students completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition.

The girls walked a remarkable 30km over the two days. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions we were not able to camp but were able to experience many of the challenges that the Duke of Edinburgh Awards pose as we were treated to the full range of spring weather, with heavy rain to start on Saturday, followed by drizzle, then on Sunday warm sunshine and blue skies to finish off the weekend.

The teams worked well together, showing great cheerfulness and positivity even in the rain, and demonstrated excellent progress with their navigation and map skills. We are encouraging them to continue to finish the other sections needed for their full award as soon as they can, and look forward to many students receiving their awards before the end of the year, which is an outstanding achievement given the many difficulties posed by the pandemic.

Here is a film of their memories from the trip!
