Boarding at St Mary’s School, Cambridge shortlisted for Independent Schools of the Year Award

Mary Ward House the exceptional new boarding provision at St Mary’s School, Cambridge has been shortlisted for the 2019 Independent Schools of the Year Boarding Award.

The 2019 awards received an unprecedented level of entries from independent schools around the UK, across 18 different categories. The Boarding School Award category recognises schools providing a vibrant and life-enhancing boarding experience, which mirrors the needs of 21st century students and their families. Judges are also looking for innovative provision and a compelling ethos.

Mary Ward House is home to 90 girls, aged 9 to 18, from over 15 different countries. It provides spacious, modern facilities, over-looking Cambridge Botanic Garden, in which girls feel safe and comfortable, in a house and grounds designed to feel ‘homely’. Girls benefit from a range of facilities including a well-being room for health and relaxation, sports facilities and a purpose-built Medical Centre, as well as creatively designed bedrooms.

Boarding life at St Mary’s is full of fun, friendship and laughter. Experiences such as an annual Boarders’ Concert and regular trips and activities across Cambridge and further afield keep girls busy and enhance the curriculum. With flexi-boarding available, day girls attending St Mary's can also experience boarding for ad-hoc nights.

The Independent Schools of the Year 2019 aims to highlight the quality of student experiences in independent schools and judges will be meeting in the autumn to select winners and highly commended schools from each category.

Claire Elliott, Head of Boarding at St Mary's School comments: "We are delighted to be shortlisted for the Boarding School Award. It is great recognition for our dedicated boarding staff, who work hard to create a welcoming, homely atmosphere at Mary Ward House, in which all our girls can thrive."
