Almost three-quarters of grades at A* – B as St Mary's School Cambridge celebrates outstanding A Level results

Almost three quarters (73%) of A Level grades at St Mary’s School Cambridge were awarded at A*-B with twelve subjects returning 100% of grades at A*-B, across a spread that runs from Psychology, Economics and Geography through to Art, Textiles, Classical Civilisation and Mandarin. This year's outstanding achievements reflect not only the dedication and intellectual curiosity of its students, but also the supportive environment in which young women are encouraged to pursue their ambitions with confidence.

Particularly impressive are their Latin, French, Spanish and Photography results, where students achieved 100% A* grades, and 60% of English Literature grades were awarded at A*. Girls in Year 13 are heading to universities including Cambridge, St Andrews, Durham, LSE, UCL and Warwick to read subjects as varied as Accounting, Chemistry, Classics, Computer Science, History, Law, Pharmacy and Theatre Studies.

Hannah Helliar, Head of St Mary's School, commented:

"Watching our Sixth Form students celebrate their well-deserved success today has been incredibly rewarding. These results are testament to their hard work, intellectual curiosity and resilience.

For over 125 years, St Mary's has been opening doors for young women, and today we see those doors leading to some of the best universities in the country. True to our founder Mary Ward's vision, these remarkable students are prepared to 'do much' as they take their next steps, and they are ready to hold those doors open for the girls who follow."

The headline A Level results for 2026 are as follows:

• Nearly three quarters of grades at A*-B

• 12 subjects achieved 100% of grades at A*-B

• 100% A* grades in Latin, French, Spanish and Photography

• 60% of English Literature grades at A*

Rebecca Landshoff, Head of Sixth Form, said:

"These A Level results reflect the strength of our Sixth Form programme, in which we challenge our students educationally while providing the support they need to thrive. What makes me particularly proud is seeing how our students have developed both as academic scholars and as thoughtful, confident young women ready to make their mark at university and beyond. The breadth of subjects in which they have excelled demonstrates the intellectual curiosity we're so very proud to foster here at St Mary's."

Two girls achieved A*A*A alongside an A* in their Extended Project Qualification, taking up places at Cambridge to read Law and Modern & Ancient Languages respectively.

Poppy, who will read Law at Cambridge, said:

"My teachers supported me with my subjects and with my Cambridge application. St Mary's has given me the tools to handle what comes next, and I'm looking forward to the next challenge."

Leonie, who joined St Mary's aged four, said:

"I've loved the Sixth Form community here. The teachers know you properly, which makes the work feel manageable. I'm going to be reading History at Sheffield, and I can't wait to get started."

Mel added:

"The support I had from my teachers through my A Levels meant a great deal to me. I'm heading off to Southampton to read English."
