A Play in a Day brings out the performers, script writers and directors in Year 5 students

Imagine a group of Junior School girls given three basic scripts based on three classic fairy tales, a costume rail full of props, and the freedom to create, collaborate and improvise. This is the story that unfolded when our Year 5 girls visited the Senior School for a day during the penultimate week of term to produce, direct and perform their own 'Play in a Day'.

Assisted by some willing and enthusiastic Sixth Formers, who are well versed in public speaking and projecting voices, they were encouraged to immerse themselves in the stories of The Three Little Pigs, Snow White and Cinderella, and to bring the characters to life in their own unique way. Comfort zones were stretched, confidence grew, and teamwork played a key role as each girl took on an acting part while helping to shape the direction of each mini performance.

As an exercise in supporting one other and growing as an individual, the day sparked imagination as plots developed and the girls grew bolder in acting out their characters. Everyone had great fun performing and enjoyed a taste of life at the Senior School.
