Year 13 student scoops 'overall prize' in the annual Cambridge Arts Society Young Arts 6th Form Exhibition

Congratulations to Bella T., Year 13 student at St Mary's School, Cambridge, who has won the overall prize in the annual Cambridge Arts Society Young Arts 6th Form Exhibition. The prize has been awarded by The Cambridge Drawing Society for her work, ‘Layers of Architecture’.

Belinda T. - who has been at St Mary's from St Mary's Junior School Reception class said of winning the award:

"I feel very honoured to receive this award. I am pleased to be able to share my artwork with the local community."

Belinda explained that she developed this piece in order to explore how we often only look at the facade of buildings and their beauty and do not recognise the planning and structures within. She explained that she wanted to heighten people’s awareness to the beauty of architectural drawing and the wonderful constructions it forms and wished to investigate the multiple layers of drawing and planning that are used in developing these architecturally monumental structures.

Ms Conroy, who is still celebrating the department's recent win at The Education Business Awards in the Art and Craft category, said:

“We are delighted that our students’ achievements, creativity, and technical skills have been formally recognised by this prestigious regional Arts Society. Bella can be very proud of her accomplishments, and we wish her every success as she goes on to study architecture a university”.

Ms Lynne Hartland, of the Cambridge Arts Society, congratulated Ms Conroy for the standard of St Mary's:

“Thank you for all your work on the students' behalf.  We were so impressed with their work.”

This year, due to the pandemic, the exhibition will be hosted online and can be seen here.
