Cambridge Classical Competition provides rare opportunity to hear fluent Latin and Greek.

This November, St Mary's was represented at the annual Classical Association's Intermediate and Senior Latin and Greek Reading Competition by Classics students Bianca L. (Year 11), Imogen C. (Year 13) and Marina B.R. (Year 12)

This unique and highly prestigious competition, hosted this year by the Faculty of Classics at the University of Cambridge, provides a rare opportunity to hear fluently spoken Latin and ancient Greek.

Bianca performed in both the Latin and Greek Intermediate prose categories, and Imogen in the Latin verse category. Additionally, Marina entered the online competition, competing in both the Senior Latin verse and Senior Greek prose categories.

They all demonstrated impressive oracy skills, delivering the passages with fluency and accuracy, communicating the sense of the passages superbly. In addition, they were required to perform before a large audience of students and teachers from various schools; no easy feat to undertake!

The students should be extremely proud of themselves for exhibiting their enthusiasm for Classical subjects by regularly attending training sessions and dedicating time to practise the fluent delivery of the passages. Very well done to Bianca, Imogen and Marina!
