An 'eco' lunch to explore plants and climate change trail

An 'eco' lunch to explore plants and climate change trail

The Eco Committee had their last Eco Thursday for this half term and enjoyed a trip to the Botanic Gardens to finish off another busy half term. Eighteen students from Year 7 to Year 13, and six members of staff went to the beautiful Cambridge University Botanic Garden over lunchtime and enjoyed exploring their 'Plants and Climate Change' trail.

On the trip, they learnt about how different plants respond to our changing climate depending on their adaptations and ecology.

Some of the plants they identified and learnt about on the trail were:

  • Giant Redwood
  • Lantana
  • Larch
  • Fen Display
  • Dogwood
  • Rice
  • Banana
  • Coffee
  • Saxifrage
  • Olive

The students particularly enjoyed visiting the hot houses, even if it was a bit too warm in the rainforest section when wrapped up in their scarves and coats! The group enjoyed sitting around the beautiful water fountain and eating their lunch outside in the fresh air. The outing was a great success, and we hope to organise future visiting opportunities.
