Year 5 discover more about Islam

The girls in Year 5 have really enjoyed celebrating World Religions Week. From learning about the life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and His example of peaceful living, to watching a virtual Mosque tour, the girls showed great enthusiasm, interest and respect as they discovered all about the Islamic faith.

At the start of the week, Year 5 learned about the 5 Pillars of Islam and reasoned why these were called ‘pillars’ and why they were the foundation to Islam. A virtual mosque tour of the Suleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey, left the girls in awe and inspired them when they gave their own ‘guided tour’ of a mosque they had researched. As well as the hard work within the classroom, for homework this week the girls carried out independent research into an area of Islam of their choice and presented their work to the class. It has been particularly exciting for the girls as Ramadan began this week – they had great fun making lanterns to celebrate and to decorate the classroom. Ramadan Mubarak to all our friends and family celebrating!
