Year 3 discover skeletons are beautiful - not for what they hide, but what they reveal

This week's Year 3 trip to the Museum of Zoology - one of Cambridge's finest collections - gave students the opportunity to get eye to eye with endoskeletons and exoskeletons as part of their current science topic, Animals and Nutrition.

They spent time examining the different ways of feeding, and the different animal diets, observing the evidence provided by the artefacts on display.

With thousands of relics to examine, choosing a favourite was a challenge, with one of our students, Juliette L. deciding on the 21-metre long Fin Whale because:

"I was surprised that they managed to fit it into the museum as it is so large! I also learned that it had teeth like long bristles which were made of keratin."

Another student, Chikameso O. found that: 

"My favourite part was when we got to hold the skulls: I found it really interesting. The turtle has a very small brain, which we could tell because there was only a really small space for it to fit into."

We love the Museum of Zoology - with its skeletons and specimens just down the road from school, it really is a great resource for our aspiring Attenboroughs. Thank you for a great experience.
