Junior School Shines in Magical Production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream
This week, our talented Year 5 and 6 pupils took to the stage with a joyful and imaginative production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, delighting audiences with their confident performances and creative storytelling.
Performed with energy and flair, the play transported us to the enchanted woods of Athens, where fairies weave mischief, lovers lose (and find!) their way, and a troupe of well-meaning actors steal the show with their hilariously earnest play-within-a-play. Every pupil brought Shakespeare’s beloved characters to life, demonstrating not only an impressive grasp of the language but also a deep understanding of the humour and heart at the core of this classic tale.
Whether playing the mischievous Puck, the feuding fairy royals Oberon and Titania, the confused young lovers, or the comically chaotic “rude mechanicals,” the cast captivated the audience with their enthusiasm, expression and teamwork. Their performance showcased the creativity, confidence and collaborative spirit that we champion at St Mary’s.
Behind the scenes, staff and pupils worked together to create beautiful costumes, simple yet effective staging, and a supportive atmosphere that allowed every performer to shine.
Interim Head of Junior School, Chris Hald, said:
"This was a wonderful celebration of all that our pupils have achieved this year. Watching them tackle Shakespeare with such joy and confidence was truly inspiring."
A huge congratulations to all involved in bringing this magical production to life—a fantastic way to end the term on a high note!
