Junior School celebrates outstanding athletes this Easter term

The Junior School has had an extremely busy Easter term full of Netball, Gymnastics and Hockey. With the end of term approaching, Mrs Pearson, Head of Prep Sport, put together some highlights to share with the St Mary’s community, to celebrate this term’s sporting successes.

The U9 netball teams have played in fixtures against Stephen Perse Foundation, King’s School, Cambridge and Heritage, while also entering the St Faith’s Bee Netball Tournament. It was amazing to see every Year 4 girl take part in a fixture this year!

The U11s have also had the opportunity to play both fixtures and tournaments with our U11A team entering the IAPS East Area Netball tournament. The girls played extremely well and even got to play against another Mary Ward school!

As always, the Year 5 and 6 Gym Display Team produced an amazing performance to open the Senior School Gym Display. Congratulations to all the girls and Mrs O’Connell for putting together an amazing routine. We look forward to watching it once again on our Junior School Gymnastic and Dance evening.

We have been delighted that Mr Grammer, our Hockey Coach, has been able to lead Year 3 and 4 hockey club this term, as well as continuing the junior development in lesson time too. The girls have been enjoying both lesson time and the club.

At February half term Carla, Orla and Izabella ended their tenure as Sports Captains. Just before half term they organised Year 3 and 4 and a Year 5 and 6 yoga sessions as part of Wellbeing Week. They were fantastic Sports Captains and should be congratulated for what they achieved. We have recently appointed Eleanor, Kiana, and LilyBo as our Sports Captains for the rest of the year -- good luck girls!

With the summer term approaching, we are looking forward to summer sports, and will be welcoming a new cricket and tennis coach to continue to enhance our sporting programme. We are excited for the girls to play fixtures in cricket and attend athletics meets. We look forward to being able to use the grass area at Long Road for both athletics and cricket, as well as the 15 tennis courts.

We also have a few dates for your diary:

Thursday 9th June – Junior School Gym and Dance Display – Years 3-6

Monday 27th June – Year 3-6 Sports Day

Wednesday 29th June – Preschool – Year 2 Sports Day
