Woman in Black theatre trip for Year 11 proves an exciting return to live theatre

Woman in Black theatre trip for Year 11 proves an exciting return to live theatre

On Thursday 14 October, the Year 11 Drama GCSE students went to watch The Woman in Black at the Fortune Theatre in London's West End.

After two years of being unable to attend theatre trips the students were incredibly excited to be able to see live theatre once again. Mr Abery, Joint Head of Drama, said of the trip,

"The students were brilliant from start to finish on the trip which included a long coach journey to London and back again. In the theatre they were a model audience showing the upmost of respect to the performers on stage. Towards the end of the play most were watching through their hands as the tension built and the Woman in Black appeared on stage, but I know that they enjoyed it and will have plenty to write about in their GCSE exam."

Our students said: "It was very engaging and effective at suspending my disbelief I was terrified. Gave me nightmares.”  Anouk S. and "‘Suspenseful pauses and amazing acting and stage directing, the jump scares were brilliantly crafted and executed with finesse." Susannah T.

Yet again, St Mary's Drama students proved how worthy they are of being able to attend live theatre, and I'm sure most will have recovered from the scares and hauntings of the play!
