Junior School

Welcome to our Junior School

St Mary’s Junior School, Cambridge is a welcoming, caring and dynamic environment for your daughter. Our Junior School is a place where she can explore and broaden her interests, build her strengths and gain her independence while developing an enthusiasm for learning, which will stay with her for life.

The Junior School has developed a Creative Curriculum of which we are very proud. The pupils’ learning focuses on an overriding theme or topic, such as Africa, or The Titanic, and the topic is investigated through the girls’ different subject areas. Through this approach, core subjects are interwoven across the curriculum, enabling pupils to gain a broader academic understanding of how, and why, their learning is relevant to them. In addition to the Creative Curriculum, the school has implemented a Development Education programme, in which pupils gain a greater understanding of global inequalities, why they exist, their own situation in the world, and what can be done to improve (or develop) the situation. Learners of all ages are encouraged to explore the relationship between global issues and their own everyday lives.

Smaller class sizes of around 20, combined with our commitment to the belief that each individual is unique, allow us to provide our pupils with the individual attention they deserve. We place the utmost importance on emotional support and providing a caring environment in which your daughter can truly learn, develop and grow. Choosing the right school for your daughter where she will be nurtured and gain the best possible academic start in life is one of the most important decisions you will make.

Welcome to St Mary’s Junior School, Cambridge from Head of Juniors, Mr Matthew O’Reilly

I started my professional relationship with St Mary’s Junior School, Cambridge in January 2011 after training at Homerton College, University of Cambridge to be a primary school teacher. Since 2012 I have been Assistant Head, and I am proud to be part of the St Mary's School, Cambridge community. I specifically wanted to work in a small church school with a strong ethos at its core – and St Mary’s Junior School, Cambridge is the perfect fit. The school has a strong family feel due to most teachers having worked here for many years and also having sent their own daughters here – as I hope to do with my little girls once they are old enough! My 10 years’ experience in education includes a number of roles teaching Business English as a foreign language, and I have a strong interest in integrating technology into classroom teaching.

St Mary’s Junior School, Cambridge, where we open doors, open minds and open up worlds – come and see for yourself!”
