Cows about Cambridge

We are delighted to be part of the Cows about Cambridge project. This innovative art project is led by Wild in Art, together with children’s charity Break, and Principal Partner, Cambridge Business Improvement District (BID).

Large cow sculptureThrough the innovative Cows about Cambridge project, St Mary's School is sponsoring one of over fifty large Cow sculptures. Our Cow will be part of a 'moo-vellous' 10-week art trail across the city, which will be open to all to enjoy from late spring 2020.

Student-led Mini Moo project

As part of this project, we held a 'mini moo' competition in Senior School inviting students to develop a design for a smaller 'mini' sculpture. As you can see from our Competition Gallery, they were brimming with great ideas and entries explored important topics through art – from environmental issues and the natural world to citizenship, community values, health and wellbeing.

Three competition winners, plus two Junior School girls are working together as our mini moo design team. Our mini sculpture, named 'Mary Moo' after our Founder, Mary Ward will be decorated in school, whilst our larger sponsored Cow sculpture will be designed and painted by an artist.

About the project

Student designCows about Cambridge is led by Wild in Art, a leading producer of creative events that transform places into free, family-friendly, outdoor art galleries. The specially commissioned Cambridge Cow is inspired by the rare Red Poll cattle, which graze on Midsummer Common in the heart of the city, during the summer months.

For Cambridge, the project is expected to create a feel-good factor for the region, and to generate £8 million of economic value, promoting wellbeing and an active lifestyle, and facilitating discussions on environmental issues.

At the end of the exhibition, a number of sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for local children's charity Break.
