Our 120th year

This year is the School's 120th anniversary. The celebrations began at our Welcome Tea, at which we welcomed new and returning students and their families after the summer holidays, but the festivities will continue throughout the year.

In Her Shoes

To commemorate Mary Ward's herculean 1500-mile walks to Rome to present plans for her Institute to three different Popes, we will also be starting an 'In Her Shoes' campaign. Our Junior and Senior Schools have made two pairs of 'Mary Ward' shoes, which will accompany school trips around the world.

If you are going on exciting trips and would like to take the shoes with you and take a photo, please do let us know so we can pass the shoes to you! To do so, please contact Emma Whittley.

More about In Her Shoes

Original log book

During our 120th year we had our original log book from our beginnings in 1901 fully digitised. Take some time to read some of the anecdotes and interesting entries made by the nuns who started our School 120 years ago!

Below is a taster of some of the events which will celebrate our 120th year.
Welcome Tea

To kick off our 120th anniversary, we held a Welcome Tea on 7 September to welcome new and returning students to the school after the summer holidays. Complete with a 120th birthday cake, it was a great way to start our anniversary year.

Wine Tasting and 120th Champagne

Following the popularity of our Pinkster Gin session last year, the Circle of Friends is holding a Wine Tasting event with Tuffon Hall, an award-winning vineyard. Tuffon Hall will also be making a 120th St Mary's wine, which will be available in the spring. Details of the Wine Tasting event will be available shortly.

120th music by composer Ēriks Ešenvalds

We are delighted to announce that renowned composer Ēriks Ešenvalds will be writing a piece of music to commemorate the School's 120th anniversary. Our choirs will give the world premiere of this music at our Christmas Concert.

Artist alumna to create 120th sculpture

We are excited to announce that alumna Lucy Unwin will be creating a sculpture for the School's 120th anniversary. Having already created a sculpture for the Junior School, we are very excited about having one for the Senior School in the near future.
