Leadership opportunities

Student speaking on stageLife at St Mary's is full of opportunities to experience taking the lead. There is something to suit everyone, from mentoring and leading activities, through to debating, assemblies, digital leaders and School Council.

As well as traditional roles such as Form Captain, Prefect or a position on the School Council, leadership experience is integral to the St Mary's experience throughout Senior School:

  • Assemblies (Years 7 to 11) - Take the opportunity to share your knowledge by leading assemblies on topics that interest you, as well as leading form prayers. Recent student-led topics have included bullying and e-safety.

  • Digital leaders (Years 8 to 12) - Join this voluntary group students, who meet regularly to discuss and influence all aspects of digital life in the school.

  • Eco-council (Years 7 to 11) - Work with other students to develop eco-initiatives across the St Mary's School community.

  • Extra-curricular groups (Years 7 to 11) - We offer a range of extra-curricular clubs that will encourage your leadership skills, such as Debating Club. Or why not take the initiative and create your own club - like our student-led TED Ed club which improves public-speaking skills?

  • Mentoring scheme (Years 10 to 13) - Gain vital skills in preparation for the workplace, by supporting younger students with their academic, social and spiritual development, through our mentoring scheme.

  • Evidence Record (Years 7 to 9) - Document examples of your leadership skills development across a variety of different situations.

  • Youth STEMM Award (Years 9 to 13) - Share your passion for STEM by taking the lead in developing public engagement activities and inspiring younger students.
