St Mary’s reaches final round in prestigious national awards

St Mary’s has been announced as a finalist in the prestigious Independent Schools of the Year 2022 Awards. The judges revealed their finalists on Wednesday 7 September – announcing that St Mary’s is one of just six schools in the running to be crowned Independent School of the Year for Student Careers Programme.

Despite tough competition, and an abundance of submissions received across all 22 award categories this year, St Mary’s impressed the distinguished panel of judges with its student careers offer to reach the final round. Results will be announced at an awards ceremony on 11th October.

The ‘Careers Programme’ award recognises schools that work hard to provide students with on-going advice and support on choosing a career. Finalists have to demonstrate how they assist pupils with finding suitable work experience, including internships, and in preparing for future employment. St Mary’s has a dedicated Careers Department, led by two specialist careers advisers, which offers bespoke support to students - working closely with pupils from Year 5 through to Sixth Form.

St Mary’s Headmistress, Charlotte Avery, said: “Being announced as a finalist, in such a highly regarded awards scheme, is an incredible way to begin the new academic year. Ensuring our pupils leave St Mary’s prepared for the next stage in their education or working life is a crucial element of our work.  From supporting students with CV writing, work placements, mock interviews and our annual employability day – our provisions are second to none. This award is evidence of that, and we look forward to finding out the final result in October.”

The Independent Schools of the Year Awards highlights education establishments that are delivering an excellent student experience. Organised by Independent School Parent Magazine, the 2022 awards are chaired once again by Dr Helen Wright, international education adviser and past Vice Chair of the ISC. Dr Wright is supported by a panel of judges, which includes leading Head Teachers and representatives of professional associations.
