Anna Airy Awards for artistic alumnae

The annual Anna Airy Awards Exhibition showcases the wealth of emerging artistic talent among young people in the local area between the ages of 16 and 23. Organised by the Ipswich Art Society, the Anna Airy Awards Exhibition 2015 received more than 170 entries from school, college and university students.

Six St Mary’s School, Cambridge alumnae who studied A Level Art last year had their artwork selected for the exhibition: Lara C., Kathy B., Phoebe W., Abigail H., Constance H. and Lillian L.

The exhibition historically includes the awarding of two major prizes, the Anna Airy Award and the Ipswich Art Society Award. Additional awards are given to recognise different artistic talents.

A very well attended Private View of the selected artwork was held on the evening of Monday 16 November. Professor Simon Read, Associate Professor of Fine Art at Middlesex University, was invited to select the prize winners. He praised the exhibition, commenting: “There was so much insightful, well executed and passionate work in this show that it was hugely difficult for me to make a judgement”. Two of our students, Lara C. and Constance H., received certificates of commendation for their artwork. The fact that all six students had their work selected was also an accolade in itself – well done to each of the six girls.
