The Cambridge Literary Festival - St Mary's sponsors 'History's Forgotten Women'

As the Winter Cambridge Literary Festival approaches, St Mary's is delighted once again to be sponsoring a speaker whose observations resonate with our own aims - to uphold and listen to and believe in the value of each individual.

Janina Ramirez will be sharing her book, 'Femina', which gives a voice to those influential women of the Middle Ages who have been written out of history by their male counterparts. Nominated as Waterstones Non-fiction book of the Month, in April, her collection of medieval stories appear rewritten and somewhat familiar, but with the addition of the missing women that history chose to ignore.

The event, at the Old Divinity School Cambridge on Saturday 18 November has already sold out but the good news is there are a whole host of other events which we would happily recommend.

Roma Agrawal's 'Inventions That Changed the World' speaks about the seven fundamental inventions, including the wheel and the nail, and the simplicity behind the most complex projects. She speaks from the experience of having designed The Shard in London.

The journalist Alice Vincent and psychiatrist Marchelle Farrell join forces to consider 'why women are drawn to the soil', finding solace in the garden, with their conversations covering creation and loss, colonialism, power and identity.
