Year 7 showcase their stop-motion skills with 'Under the Sea' videos

As part of the School's enrichment program, Year 7 students embark on a creative exploration while pursuing the St. Mary's Arts Award. This comprehensive journey includes modules in animation, embroidery, and drama with a musical element. The overarching theme for this artistic endeavour is 'Under the Sea,' prompting students in the visual arts category to undertake the challenge of designing a short stop-motion animation that aligns with this captivating theme.

To facilitate collaboration and creativity, students are organised into House Groups, namely Brookside, Cavendish, Elms, and Paston. Within these groups, they work cohesively and effectively to craft compelling storylines, design props, and bring animated characters to life. Taking on various roles such as director, animator, and cinematographer, they dedicated 4-5 sessions to developing their projects.

The culmination of their efforts is marked by the 'Moscar Ceremony,' where each group's animation is showcased. During this event, a 'Best Picture' award, akin to a 'mock Oscar,' is presented to the most outstanding work. The entire school community comes together to celebrate the students' creative achievements, and house points are awarded to recognise and appreciate the collective artistic endeavours of each house.
