St Mary’s Rowers Shine at Cambridge Winter Head-to-Head

On Saturday, 12 crews from St Mary’s School, Cambridge, ranging from Year 9 to Year 13, competed at the Cambridge Winter Head-to-Head.

Made up of two 2km legs raced back-to-back, the event is a true test of fitness, focus and teamwork and an opportunity for our rowers to put the hard work of the past term and a half into action. The St Mary’s crews rose to the challenge brilliantly, delivering an outstanding set of performances across the day.

A day of wins, podium finishes and course records

St Mary’s crews achieved victories in the WJ15 doubles, WJ16 doubles, Club Women’s quads and WJ14 coxed quads, alongside a strong set of second-place finishes in several categories including WJ17 singles, WJ15 doubles, WJ16 doubles, Champ Women’s quads, Club Women’s quads and WJ14 coxed quads.

The day was made even more memorable with St Mary’s crews setting multiple course records, including in the WJ15 doubles, WJ16 doubles, WJ16 quads, WJ15 quads and WJ14 coxed quads.

A special mention goes to our Year 11 rowers, who doubled up between the doubles and quads, completing an impressive 8km of racing over the course of the day - a fantastic achievement and a reflection of their determination and resilience.

Overall, it was a hugely positive day for St Mary’s rowing, and an encouraging sign as we look ahead to the larger races coming up in March.
