St Mary’s Junior School Celebrates Exceptional Success in the Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge 2025

St Mary's Junior School is proud to announce exceptional results from pupils in Years 2 to 6 who took part in the prestigious Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge 2025 during their Computer Science lessons in November.

The results are outstanding: every pupil in Years 2 and 3 scored above the national mean, alongside 92% of pupils in Years 4 and 5, and 81% of pupils in Year 6. Two students achieved perfect scores of 100%.

In addition, more than half of our Junior School achieved a Gold award with scores in the top 10% nationally, and thirteen achieved the joint highest scores in their age groups across the whole of the UK.

Run by The Raspberry Pi Foundation, this national online competition tests participants’ ability to solve complex, timed problems using key computational thinking skills such as algorithm design, pattern recognition, logic, and abstraction. Competing within their respective age categories, our girls joined 526,915 students from across the UK, with the challenge also taking place in more than 80 countries worldwide.

This is the sixth year that St Mary's Junior School has taken part, and we are absolutely delighted that, once again, our girls have demonstrated their considerable skills with enthusiasm, determination and perseverance. Our early-years approach to STEM in the Junior School sees girls engaging in the exciting possibilities that futures in science, technology engineering and mathematics hold.

Many congratulations to Natalia O. (100%), Theodora A., Sunwoo C., Isabella D-P., Kala G., Niran G., Zoe H., Juliette L., Chikameso O., Mia P-H., Beatrix P., Hollie S., Yan Ki Y. (100%) and Ellin G. (93.3%) for achieving the highest scores in their age groups and being awarded ‘Best In School’ certificates.

In addition, Natalia, Theodora, Sunwoo, Isabella, Kala, Niran, Zoe, Juliette, Chikameso, Mia, Beatrix, Hollie and Yan Ki Y achieved the joint highest scores in their age groups in the whole UK!

The girls all worked extremely hard during the challenge and demonstrated not just their computational thinking skills, but also enthusiasm, determination and perseverance. They should all be extremely proud of what they have achieved. In March, some of our older girls will be participating in the ‘Bebras Coding Challenge 2026’, so we look forward to reporting back on future successes in the Spring Term.
