Sports Awards 2026
St Mary’s Cambridge was delighted to host its Annual Sports Awards last night, celebrating a fantastic year of sporting achievement across the school. From our U11s through to our U18s, students were recognised for their dedication, progress, and success across a wide range of sports including hockey, cricket, netball, football, rowing, athletics, cross country, gymnastics, dance, and tennis.
The evening brought together students, staff, and families to reflect on a year defined not only by results, but by commitment, teamwork, and growth. While we celebrated individual achievements through our Above and Beyond Awards (listed below), it was also an opportunity to recognise the collective success of all those who have represented St Mary’s sport this year.
Each sport was introduced by the member of staff who leads it, offering an overview of the progress and development seen over the past year. From the continued growth of our football programme, to establishing tennis as a truly year-round sport, and achieving success at local, regional, and national level across multiple disciplines, it has been a year of real momentum for sport at St Mary’s.
We were honoured to welcome former international netball player Chelsea Pitman as our guest speaker. Chelsea shared insights from her career at the highest level of the sport, speaking powerfully about the importance of community, consistency, and resilience. She reflected on how setbacks can be some of the most valuable learning experiences, helping athletes to grow stronger both on and off the court. Her message was both inspiring and thought-provoking for our students as they continue their own sporting journeys.
We were also pleased to welcome Jess Grammer, daughter of former St Mary’s hockey coach David Grammer, who sadly passed away last year. David made a lasting contribution to sport at St Mary’s, and this year we were proud to introduce the David Grammer Award for Commitment to Sport, in his memory. This award recognises the dedication, passion, and spirit that David brought to the school, and which continues to inspire our community.
