Learning Takes Off for Year 5 at The Imperial War Museum Duxford

Our Year 5 girls enjoyed an unforgettable journey into the past with a recent school trip to the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, supporting their learning about Word War II.

They were captivated by the museum's vast collection of aircraft, with the thrilling sight of a real Spitfire taking off and landing bringing history vividly, and loudly, to life. Another memorable moment was the opportunity to try on replica WWII pilot uniforms, helping the girls to imagine what life was like for our Royal Air Force.

A highlight of the day was a personal tour of the iconic Concord, one of the most famous aircraft in aviation history and a sharp contrast to the planes of WWII.

The girls were particularly interested in discovering the important role American forces played in WWII and how Duxford contributed to turning the tide during the Battle of Britain. It was a valuable and enriching experience for everyone, made particularly memorable by the knowledgeable volunteers who were on hand to answer their many thoughtful questions.
