Boarding house and options

Home from home

We recently acquired 15 Brooklands Avenue to provide a new home for all boarding students, enhancing the provision to give boarders the best possible environments in which to live, learn and grow.

Brooklands Avenue

Named Mary Ward House after the school’s foundress, the new accommodation is set in substantial grounds adjacent to the Cambridge University Botanic Garden on the south side, just as the school’s Bateman Street site is adjacent to the north. The interior features student and staff accommodation as well as large communal spaces over the three floor property.

The younger boarders share beautifully furbished dormitories with rooms with up to five other girls. Girls in Year 10 to Lower Sixth share a double room with one other student, and Upper Sixth students usually have their own single room for the duration of their Upper Sixth year.

All of our girls’ bedrooms provide ample space and are fully equipped with beds, desks, wardrobes, chests of drawers, sinks and safes, and bathrooms in the boarding house are spacious and private, with plenty of showers and hot water for everyone! There is also an efficient laundry facility.

The boarding house common rooms are comfortable and roomy, perfect for relaxing and socialising. Cosy sofas, TVs, DVD players, Wii and board games, and daily newspapers are all available. There is also WiFi throughout the boarding house, together with communal PCs and printers for everyone to use and enjoy.

Should your daughter be peckish in-between meals, the boarding house kitchens are fully equipped with milk, juice, bread, cheese, fruit and other provisions for evening and weekend snacks.

Boarding options

Boarding is offered for girls from Year 5 upwards, throughout the Senior School and Sixth Form.

Full time

Full time boarding is available for girls from Year 5. Boarders live at school throughout term-time, returning home for half terms and school holidays.

Weekly boarding

A weekly boarding option is also available to girls from Year 5 upwards - most weekly boarders go home at the end of the school week and return on a Sunday evening or Monday morning.

Flexi-boarding is available to girls in Year 5 and above for ad hoc nights, a regular night each week or for several weeks at a time.
