Our first ever virtual Sports Day

Our first ever virtual Sports Day

On Friday 19 June, the Senior School came together online for our first ever Virtual Sports Day. After having a welcome meeting with Miss Powell in the morning, the students, staff, and parents had a fun-filled day of activities and competitions. Students sent in photos of their day, with many of them re-creating action shots, completing the challenges and getting kitted out in their house colours to show and support their house. We took a trip down memory lane, by looking back at some photos from last year’s Sports Day and welcomed our new sports captain Amelie D. (Year 12), by watching a welcome speech that she had recorded. Throughout the term the girls in Years 7, 8 and 9 have been working extremely hard to produce some work based on the Olympics. They were given the freedom to create a mascot, design kit, design a stadium and many more options. We were delighted and extremely proud to be able to share these projects during Sports Day with the staff, students and parents, and have had some wonderful comments on the high standard of the girls’ work. The girls have also been competing in an interhouse competition during the summer term. They have been recording the minutes of exercise that they have done and have logged it to go towards their house total. These results were finally announced on Friday during Sports Day. Overall, Cavendish came out on top, followed closely by Paston and Brookside. The PE department would like to thank all the girls who took part and contributed to their house total for the Summer Term interhouse competition. Results from the Sports Day challenges were also announced nearing the end of the day.

The PE department would like to say a massive thank you to all of the staff and parents that took time and were able to join in with the activities. The final task of the day was to try and beat the PE department’s lockdown relay video. We have had some excellent entries for this, including on from our Sixth Form prefects and the staff in the learning support department.

Miss Powell commented: “Thank you to all the staff, students and parents that have got involved with the activities that were offered on Sports Day. It was great to see that despite being at home, we were still been able to come together as a community to celebrate and enjoy sport. I hope it was wonderful for you to feel a sense of togetherness, competing in the challenges, adding minutes to your house, staff, or parent total, and ultimately having fun and enjoying doing sport. Thank you to everyone that got involved and especially to Miss Josiffe who helped organise and make the day as special and hopefully memorable for everyone, as it definitely will be for me.”
