Higher Cambs Tour comes to St Mary's: girls learn DJ techniques from 'Galactus' Jack

On Monday we were joined for the day by DJ and music producer 'Galactus' Jack as part of the Higher Cambs Tour, which has been taking place in schools, churches and other venues around Cambridge and Cambridgeshire for two weeks.

Galactus Jack contributed to RE lessons and assemblies with a number of year groups, giving students from Years 7 to 12 an impromptu masterclass in DJ techniques and sound equipment. Galactus Jack shared the story of how what started out as his hobby had become his work and then his way of life; he encouraged students to pursue their own dreams but also to reflect that achieving your goals doesn't always bring the fulfillment you think it might. He reflected on how his religion and Christian faith had influenced his outlook and changed his perspective of the music and club scene in which he works.

All in all, students found it to be a thought-provoking and fun experience.
