Psychology students meet an infamous psychologist at conference

Our Sixth Form Psychology students enjoyed a stimulating conference in London on Tuesday 20 March, and the opportunity to meet Dr Philip Zimbardo. Zimbardo has become perhaps the most famous living psychologist as the creator of the notorious Stamford prison experiment (which now features in a film directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez), and spoke about a lifetime of important research into areas such as shyness and the threat posed to young people by the digital age. Professor Christina Maslach spoke of her work as the world's leading authority on burnout and Professor Sergio de Sala exposed a few myths of popular Psychology, such as the claim that we only use 10 percent of our brains, or that people with a dominant left brain are logical, while those who favour the right hemisphere are creative. Two more academics who write textbooks for the current syllabus completed the line-up for an enjoyable and useful day all round!
