Scholars represent inspiring women in Balloon Debate

On Tuesday 22 January we held the annual Balloon Debate in the Learning Resource Centre. All academic scholars from Years 7, 8 and 9 presented either on their own or in pairs to an audience of parents, staff and Year 6 students.

In keeping with the School’s 120th year anniversary, the girls represented an inspiring woman of their choice of the last 120 years. Imogen H.-H. and Emily H. were voted as this year's winners after a very creative and well-written rap about Vigdís Finnbogadóttir. She was the world's first democratically elected female president. With a presidency of exactly sixteen years, she also remains the longest-serving elected female head of state of any country to date.

David Wilson, our Economics teacher who ran the debate, said: "Well done to all the girls for their impressive research and outstanding presentation skills. It is extremely brave speaking in front of an audience of 60 people, at any age. Every one of the girls did themselves proud and taught us some fascinating things about the most inspiring women of recent history."
