What was your favourite subject at school? I'd have to say Latin but that would be closely followed by Woodwork, Metalwork, and Technical Drawing. Also, I was happy whenever I was out on the football pitch.

How did you decide to become a teacher? I taught for a year straight after I graduated from University of Cambridge because a local school was looking for a Classics teacher, and I thought it would be a good experience. After a long detour as a Corporate Lawyer in the City and a spell in Corporate Finance I came back to Cambridge and, inspired by my old Latin teacher, took the plunge with a PGCE. Teaching at St Mary’s School, Cambridge was my first job after my PGCE and here I still am, eight years later! My favourite thing about working here would be the fantastic students and friendly colleagues.

Favourite things! What's your all-time favourite…
Book: Fiction, ‘The Magus’ by John Fowles.  I'm also partial to cookbooks and love leafing through Nigel Slater's book ‘Tender’.
Poem: a bit vague, but anything by Catullus.
Film: I was brought up on a diet of war movies so I’m tempted to say ‘The Great Escape’, but I also really enjoyed ‘Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown’ - it’s great fun and reminds me of my time living in Madrid.
Hobby: Drinking a properly-made cappuccino in a cafe whilst reading the paper – if that counts! I've recently taken up road biking but when I’m not doing that I spend far too much time watching football; having suffered at school in London for supporting the then-rubbish Chelsea I’m now enjoying every moment of their success.
Music: I think my taste is quite eclectic! Anyone looking at my iTunes collection would see Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith and Puccini's Tosca have all been played a lot recently.

How do you find inspiration to do well? I've always been a bit of a stickler for doing whatever is put in front of me to the best of my ability.

Where has your favourite holiday been to? Any time spent in Italy, particularly Rome, counts as a good holiday. Further afield, I loved touring round the Cape vineyards in South Africa.

What’s your worst habit? Being too fussy about the coffee I drink.

Team Trivia - (without a calculator) If you bought your daughter a coat from Jack Wills that had been reduced by 20% in the sale, with a sale price of £100, how much did the coat cost before it was reduced? £125 of course! [correct answer from Mr Hunnable]
