Year 5 Visit OLEM
On Wednesday 25 March, Year 5 visited the Catholic Church in Cambridge: Our Lady and the English Martyrs (OLEM). They looked carefully at the architecture and design of the building as well as the artefacts within, to further understand the place of churches within history. After some exploration and careful observations, the girls were buzzing with questions. Fortunately, Father Tony was on hand to share his extensive knowledge.
Here are some student comments from the visit:
'I was surprised to learn that it only took four years to build the church. I thought that it would have taken far longer as it is such an impressive building. I was also excited to learn that the peal of the bells are thought to be the best in East Anglia.' Alessandra H
‘I loved looking closely at all the detailed carving. We found the Tudor Rose, beautiful flowers, lions and even a beetle hidden in the wood and stone.'
Alice B
‘The floor was really detailed with geometric patterns and flowers. In some places, the patterns had worn away and it was amazing to think how many feet must have walked there.' Anna J
